Alan Looi takes double win at 2011 Auckland Off-road Champs

The Auckland Off-road champs was held from 30th Apr - 1st May, classes run at the ARCCC track were 1/8th IC Buggy, 1/8th IC Truggy, as well as 1/8th Electric Buggies and Truggies combined.

The weekend was scheduled to have five qualifying runs, with four being run on the saturday, then one early sunday morning. Round five of qualifying on sunday morning was cancelled due to the weather looking like it was going to take a turn for the worse. So the racing went directly into the finals.

Alan Looi was the pace setter from the get go, TQing both Buggy and Truggy with impressively consistent times on saturdays qualifying runs with his MUGEN / Alpha gear.

Watching the Electric 1/8th scale cars was great, Matt Whitmarsh had a Brushless converted Losi which was great to watch with it's insane amount of torque clearing most of the jumps with ease.

Race director Stuart Grant did a great job in making sure there were no issues all weekend, and it definately showed in how smoothly all the races seemed to flow on.

Alan Looi took the win in both Truggy and Buggy putting 2 laps on the second place getters in both classes.

In Truggy Basil Weyers fought a valiant effort with qualifying in the C main, then bumping up to the A Main, and finishing a respectible 8th place. Well done!
