Ok guys, If some cheapass wanted to buy a chassis that could be used for stock OR superstock, what would it be? Take into account reliability, cost of running and competitiveness.
Cheers!

They are both good cars and at club level neither would provide any advantage over the other I would say. The TC5 would possibly even be better because it isn't as complicated.

Go with whatever has better local parts support

Cyclone can be a little difficult to get parts locally and to be honest our experience with Hot Bodies is the parts you break more often are the ones that tend to sell out - a little better now they have fixed the diff bolt issue but still you will go through hubs and on the TC the arms are fragile - the TC5 does seem to be tough though although it does have a few week spots Stephen does a great job of supplying parts locally.

My son and I have no problem with our Cyclones, and they are both older ones. Mind you, we drive at Rua, so not many things to hit!
Haven't owned a TC5

I've had no experiences with HB but I've owned TC5s for the past couple of years and can vouch for them. Stephen does have great parts backup and they are cheap to fix. Not sure why people are selling them but all that means is that they are becoming even more cost effective to race due to very affordable 2nd hand prices.
They do require slight modifications for chassis balancing with lipos but the info is really easy to find online.

Thanks for the info guys, I have gone with Team Associated TC5. 8)
Now, what capacity Lipo and how many of them would I use for Superstock, with Tekin RS and Redline 13.5T brushless?
Would I be pi##ing into the wind trying the car out with my 3200MAH 25C?
Cheers (y)

That battery will be fine - you only use around 2000MaH in a super stock race (I also run the Tekin setup). As always though, the higher the capacity, the higher the average voltage during a race (i.e. the battery is less flat as a percentage of it's total capacity). The other problem with low capacity LiPOs is that they're a lot lighter than say a 5200, so you'll have weight and balance issues to deal with too.

Matt is spot on there. I use 1850 to 2000 in a race. My cells are 4100 27C and 5000 35C. You won't notice a lack of punch unless you are at the top end of racing. I thought I had a fantastic run last meet in a qualifier, and my time was a PB. When I took the shell off I saw I had my 4100 in there, so there you go!
Once you've mastered set-up, including tire selection, and understand the intricacies of the new ESC settings, as well as getting your lap consistency down to 0.1, you cells may be holding you back, until then I wouldn't stress :)

 I may as well run 1300 Nicads then, because I can barely keep my TT01 off the pipes at St Lukes!

I have only done 2 meetings in RC, therefore I am pretty green. But I come from a motorcycle roadracing background so setup, racecraft and picking good lines etc is not new to me. However I think the speed of a Superstock may be a bit beyond my reactions! I will try the Stock set up and then Superstock, just to confirm that I'm not yet experienced enough for the 13.5...

Apologies in advance for any carnage yet to be caused

The best piece of advice I can offer, is take your time! Just work on being consistent instead of fast. Superstock is a huge leap from stock as far as speed goes.
But it's FUN to go fast :)
